Behind every successful organization is the heart and time of dedicated volunteers. Below are descriptions of some of the volunteer positions currently open for two of our summer programs.
Vacation Bible School
Team Lead (in training)
To be equipped with the skills to lead, train, and implement future VBS programs. You will work closely with this year’s VBS Team Captain so that you are equipped to lead future VBS programs on your own.
Children’s Small Group Team Leaders
Your primary responsibilities will include, and may not be limited to the following. Your primary responsibility is to serve the children you are assigned by genuinely seeking to get to know them, leading them through the VBS (you will be their contact person through the whole program each day), and by leading them to discover a relationship with Jesus Christ. You will lead story time (activity #1). This activity is scripted, so you will have a work book to guide what you say and what you do. You will lead the children from activity to activity, and you will assist the other team leads accomplish their respective tasks. Thus, when the children are in craft time, you help the children with their crafts and you will aide the craft leader in keeping the children in order. Finally, you may have to help out with snack time. Be prepared to fill in where needed.
Craft Time Team Lead
Your primary responsibilities will be to create, and “craft”, the craft time. There is a book provided that will guide you in this effort. In collaboration with your VBS Team Captain, you will pick at least 1, 2 at most, experiments from our VBS Theme Guide and 1 to 2 crafts for each day pending time restraints. Then, your responsibility will be to lead the experiments, the crafts, and help the children connect how these activities relate to the theme for the day, the scripture lesson for the day, and their everyday lives.
Snack Time Team Lead
Working in collaboration with your VBS Team Captain, your primary responsibility will be to create snacks that fit the theme for the day, the scripture lesson for the day, and find ways to explain how the snack relates to these themes and the children’s everyday lives. Be in collaboration with your Craft Time Team Lead in the assignment of snacks, for some of the crafts are edible. There is a workbook that will guide you in your preparation for this task. You will also help facilitate the snack time each day.
Game Time Team Lead
Your primary responsibility will be to create, plan for and execute the games during the game time. Have an extra game or two ready to go, just in case we need to fill time. You will be provided a workbook that will guide your preparation—it has lots of sample ideas for each day. Finally, be sure to help the children connect the idea behind the games you are playing with the theme for the day, the scripture lesson for the day, and find ways to help the children relate these things to their everyday lives.
Decorating Team Lead
With the help of your VBS Team Captain you will decorate the two primary spaces our VBS will take place, which are the upstairs sanctuary and the downstairs fellowship hall—plus the registration area and the outdoor front entrance. The down stairs will be our laboratory, so we need to help it look like a fun place to do experiments. And the upstairs will be our gathering space for opening/closing worship—there are lots of things we can do up there. You will be provided a workbook and DVD to help guide you in your planning.
Market Team Captain (in training)
To be equipped with the skills to plan, lead, train, and implement future Bongards Market seasons. You will work closely with this year’s Market Team Captain to be equipped to lead future Market Seasons on your own.
Market Team Advisory Board (Market Captain + 2 others)
You will assist the Market Team Captain in planning, leading, training market participants, and implementing this year’s Bongards Market. Your responsibilities will include—though, they may not be limited to—the following. In collaboration with your Market Team Captain, you will organize the market by assisting in contacting vendors, helping with advertising and marketing, and both recruiting and training market team openers and closers. In addition, you will take one opening or closing shift, and if all else fails will be willing to be “backup” in an extreme situation.
Market Team Market Openers/Closers
Your primary responsibilities will be to assist the Market Team Advisory Board in managing the market during hours of operation. The opener and the closer—with respect to your respective days—will be the onsite Market Warden. Please see list of duties below for opening/closing the market. You will not work more than 3(at most 4) days the whole market season.
