Access to nutritious, affordable, and culturally relevant foods is important for overall health and well-being. Eating well can play an important role in preventing chronic disease, providing enough energy to carry out daily activities, support mental well-being, promote growth and development in children, and much more.
St. John’s United Church of Christ offers PoP Club for children ages 4 to 12 and PoP Plus for adults ages 65+ at our seasonal Bongards Farmers Market.
There are also many resources for people to get access to healthy foods in Carver County, even if you have financial limitations. Carver County’s Health and Human Services department has compiled a complete list of organizations that offer food assistance on a special website, go to www.findfoodcarvercounty.org. For Summer Meal programs, check out their calendar.
For seniors with difficulties in getting around, Meals on Wheels is also available. Depending on individual circumstances, meals may be provided along a sliding fee scale, from no cost to full price. While no senior will be denied a meal because of an inability to pay, he/she may be asked to contribute voluntarily toward the cost of a meal.
