On Friday, April 28th, a group from our congregation participated in an “All Ages” volunteer event at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) in Chanhassen, MN.
FMSC is a Christian non-profit organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. Volunteers hand-pack meals specially formulated for malnourished children, and the meals are sent to their partners around the world where they’re used to operate orphanages, schools, clinics and feeding programs to break the cycle of poverty. FMSC food has reached more than 70 countries since 1987.
Our shift packed boxes for children in Dominica. In 1 hour 10 minutes, a total of 94 boxes were packed, which will feed 56 children for a full year. The bags contain Rice, Soy Nuggets for protein, a mineral & vitamin vegetarian flavored powder mixture, and dehydrated vegetables.
Here’s what folks said about the event:
“It’s very organized and very rewarding. It gives you a great feeling of accomplishment…that you made a difference in so many children’s lives. My grandkids had a great time. My granddaughter, who will be 10 this summer, wanted to go again!!” – Joyce
“What a wonderful experience that we had at the event. Knowing that this process will help feed starving children is something one can hardly imagine….The work is easy and the time flies by and you get a wonderful feeling about helping someone else that is in need.” -Sandy and Woody
“This was so much fun last night!! I know the kids really enjoyed it and so did I. If we do this again, definitely sign us up!!” – Emily
