Good morning all,
We will be meeting Thursday at 6:00 at David and Cindy’s and on Zoom. We are going through some very hard to read scripture as we move through what many term the Passion.
We are in Part 13, The Lifeblood of the Church, in the guide. Read from Jesus is Handed Over to Pilate to the Crucifixion of Jesus (Pp 118-121). Our Basic Bible References are:
- Matthew 27:1-31 (Jesus Brought before Pilate; The Suicide of Jesus; Pilate Questions Jesus; Barabbas or Jesus?; Pilate Hands Jesus over to Be Crucified; and The Soldiers Mock Jesus)
- Isaiah 42:1-4; 52:13-53:7 (beginning of The Servant, a Light to the Nations; and the beginning of The Suffering Servant)
Pilate attempts to remove himself from the decision to crucify Jesus instead of Barabbas. ‘He took some water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”
Our Question of the Week is: “How much responsibility do you place on Pilate for the crucifixion of Jesus? Have you ever been placed in a situation where you went along with something that you knew to be wrong? How did you feel? Would you change anything?”
I love the amount of engagement we have been having during our discussions. Oftentimes scripture causes us to confront our own experiences, our own decisions, and our own faith. That is good. Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.”
Grace and peace,
Pastor Scott
