Bible Fellowship – March 21, 2024

Good afternoon makers of the soup,

We will be meeting at David and Cindy’s and on Zoom on Thursday.

This week we will be discussing the crucifixion and death of Jesus on the cross. It is some of the heaviest scripture we will try to hold and share in the Bible. We will be finishing Part 13, The Lifeblood of the Church. Please read from the Crucifixion of Jesus to the end of this section (Pp 120-123). Our Basic Bible References are:
Matthew 27:32-66 (The Crucifixion of Jesus; The Death of Jesus; The Burial of Jesus, and The Guard at the Tomb).
Psalm 22 (Plea for Deliverance of Suffering and Hostility)
Amos 8:9 (Part of The Basket of Fruit)
The Guide says, “Throughout Matthew’s Passion Narrative, the blood of Jesus is central. Jesus is the trusting and trustworthy Son of God who as the Son of Man is also revealing God’s way of being human (5:48). Jesus pours out his blood for the forgiveness of sins for many (26:28), and in the shedding of his righteous, innocent, sacrificial blood, he creates the possibility of forgiveness even for those who put him to death.”

Our Question of the Week is: “How important is the cross and crucifixion to your faith? Why? Do you think that Jesus’ selfless act of sacrifice satisfies the need for justice required by God for humanity’s sinfulness? Do you think God requires a sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin?”

I am looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts and insights. This scripture and your thoughts are important and this is a supportive group that affirms and loves each other.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Scott
