Good afternoon all,
We will begin our study on Paul’s letter to the Galatians on Thursday. It has a number of important topics for us to study and so many of them are applicable to our lives today.
According to my Lutheran Study Bible: “Galations has been called ‘The Magna Carta of Christian Freedom”…and Martin Luther so loved Galatians that he called it “My Katie” in honor of the woman he married. This brief letter has called the church to reform and has inspired faith in millions.”
I encourage you to read the entire letter to familiarize yourself. For our in session readings our Bible references this week will be:
Galatians 1:1-24 (Salutation; There is No Other Gospel; Paul’s Vindication of HIs Apostleship)
Acts 9:1-9 (Beginning of The Conversion of Saul)
Beside Jesus himself, Paul may be the most influential figure in the New Testament. Paul’s teachings emphasized the central doctrines of Christianity, including salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, the unity of believers in Christ, and the importance of living a life transformed by the Holy Spirit.
Our Question of the Week is: “What do you know about the Apostle Paul? What do you think of him? How much do his teachings affect your faith?”
This is an adult study. As such, the amount that you put into preparation for our sessions is your decision. The general rule is: The more you put in the more you will benefit. A couple of my esources are the Lutheran Study Bible; New Revised Standard Version and Galatians: Interpretation: A Bible Study Commentary for Teaching and Preaching by Charles B. Cousar. Please share if you have resources that you find useful. As we can all agree, the best ingredients make the best soup.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Scott
