Soup for the Soul – October 24, 2024

Good morning fellow sojourners,

I hope all those working on the harvest are well and hoping that all is going well. We narrowly missed a fire at the church and God bless the miracle that the corn had been harvested the day before. Thank you to all who participated in our discussion on John 3.

We are moving on to Chapter 4 in John this week. Our reading begins with a conversation between Jesus and some would say an unlikely person at a well. A Samaritan Woman who is not named and yet has the longest discussion with Jesus in the Gospel of John. Please read from The Woman of Samaria to the end Part 4, A Man and a Woman, in the guide (pp 32-34). Our Basic Bible reference for the week is:

John 4:1-42 (Jesus and the Woman of Samaria)

Psalm 42:1-2 (The Beginning of Longing for God and His Help in Distress)

Exodus 3:13-16 (Beginning of the Divine Name Revealed)

It is dry as a bone in our world so the analogy of being thirsty seems appropriate this week. Jesus says to the Samaritan Woman: “those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” Our Question(s) of the Week is: In what ways do you feel spiritually fulfilled? In what ways do you feel spiritually thirsty? In what ways can we provide living water for those who are thirsty around us?”

I am looking forward to making our soup together this week.
