Soup for the Soul – November 21, 2024

Good morning all,

Here are the readings and the question of the week for Thursday. Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

We are moving to Part 5, Healing and Believing, in our guide. If you want to get ahead of the reading, please read from the Summary through Testimony (pp 36-40). Our Basic Bible reference is:

John 4:43-5:47 (Jesus Returns to Galilee; Jesus Heals an Official’s Son; Jesus Heals on the Sabbath; The Authority of the Son; Witnesses to Jesus)

In this section we read of Jesus’ healing. These healings are called “signs” because they point to who Jesus is. Jesus heals on the sabbath that leads to persecution by the authorities. It appears that the healing of this man has led to unintended consequences. The phrase “no good deed goes unpunished” seems to apply here.

Our Question of the Week is: “How does this story show that even positive changes can lead to unintended challenges or consequences? Have you experienced a time when God brought change into your life that led to unexpected reactions or challenges from others? How did you handle it?”

Thank you so much for the great discussions that we have. You all make the world a better place. Feel free to bring forth anything that you want to discuss with the group.

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Scott
