Good morning everyone,
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving last week. We have been developing a serious attitude of gratitude at our church which went from the Harvest Celebration picnic at Sham and Vicki’s through Thanksgiving. That is good and right. It helps us to live into who we are and how we respond to God’s abundance. Which also connects us with our readings and discussion for this week.
We are moving through Part 5, Healing and Believing, in our guide. Please read from Feeding the Multitudes through Hunger (Pp 40-42). Our Basic Bible references for the week are:
John 6:1-40 (Feeding the Five Thousand; Jesus Walks on Water; and the first part of The Bread from Heaven)
Deuteronomy 18:15-18 (the beginning of A New Prophet Like Moses)
Exodus 16 (Bread from Heaven)
The feeding of the 5000 is the only miracle (or sign) story in all four of the Gospels. Our Question(s) of the Week is: “Why do you think all the Gospel writers felt this was important? Do you find it important? If so, why?
I look forward to our discussion this week. Chapter 6 and the whole discourse on Bread shares fundamental truths about who Jesus is and his importance in our physical and spiritual lives.
