Soup for the Soul – January 9, 2025

Good morning all, 

 

Definitely good soup weather. We finished the Bread of Life Discourse last week and had another thought provoking discussion. This week we turn to Chapter 7. We have moved on to Part 6, Come to the Water, in our guide. Please read from the Summary through The Conflict Continues (Pp 46-51). Our Basic Bible reference for this week is:

 

John 7:1-53 (The Unbelief of Jesus Brothers; Jesus at the Festival of Booths; Is This the Christ?; Officers Sent to Arrest Jesus; Rivers of Living Water; Division Among the People; and The Unbelief of Those in Authority)

 

Chapter 7 has themes of division about who Jesus is and opposition from the religious leaders. Even his own brothers doubt who he is.We also return to the theme of living water that we had back in Chapter 4 with the Samaritan Woman. At verse 37 Jesus says, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and let the one who believes in me drink. As the scripture has said, ‘Out of the believers heart, shall flow rivers of living water.'” Our Questions of the Week are: “How do you understand the role of the Holy Spirit as described here? What does it mean for the Spirit to flow like “streams of living water” from within believers? How have you experienced the presence and work of the Holy Spirit in your life? How can we cultivate the Spirit in our own lives?”
