Soup for the Soul – January 16, 2025

Good morning all,

Thank you so much for that great conversation, especially on the Holy Spirit, that we had last week.

We will pick up where we left off in Chapter 7 this week. Please read from The Conflict Continues through Who, Where, Why in the guide (Pp 50-53). Our Basic Bible References for this week are:

John 7:40-8:30 (Division Among the People; The Unbelief of Those in Authority; The Woman Caught in Adultery; Jesus the Light of the World; and Jesus Foretells  His Death)

Jesus encounters a woman who is accused of adultery in our readying this week. 8:6b-8:7 reads, ‘Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. When they kept questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let anyone among you is without sin be the first one to throw a stone at her.” And then once again he bent down and wrote on the ground.’ Our Questions of the Week are: Why do you think Jesus paused to write on the ground. What do you think he was writing? Do you relate to the woman in the story? In what ways have you experienced mercy in your life, and when have you been able to extend that same mercy to others? Have there been times when you “threw stones” that you wish that you had shown mercy instead?”

I am looking forward to how you react and respond to this week’s scripture and question. I love to hear from everyone how scripture lands with us and how it can influence our own choices.

Stay warm and I hope to see you soon!
