Soup for the Soul – January 30, 2025

Good morning all,

Hope everyone is well. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend last week for another great discussion. I have been thinking a lot about the truth making us free. This week we will be finishing the end of Part 6, Come to the Water, and beginning Part 7, Even a Blind Man Can See, in our guides. Please read Where Are They From through The Healing of the Blind in our guide (Pp 53-58). Our Basic Bible reference is:

John 8:39-9:17 (Jesus and Abraham; A Man Born Blind Receives Sight; beginning of The Pharisees Investigate the Healing)

Jesus healing the man who was blind at birth at the beginning of Chapter 9 begins a section that runs all the way into Chapter 10. Like in so much of the Gospel, the healing of the blind man will end up representing so much more than the individual healing. It was common thought at the time that a baby being born blind was due to sin (either by the parents or the child). Jesus says, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God’s works might be revealed in him.” Our Question of the Week is: Have you ever had something you surely didn’t want to have happen that turned out to be a blessing? How might this perspective help you navigate challenges in your life right now or in the future? Are there things in your life that you remain “blind” to?”

I know this touches a question we have discussed before, “Why do bad things happen to good people?” I don’t know if I will ever have a great answer to this question. I look forward to our discussion. As always, feel free to share on this thread. Thank you,
