Soup for the Soul – February 27, 2025

Good morning everyone,

I hope everyone is enjoying the thaw even if it brings with it some mud. We have some of the best conversations and I know they help me have a deeper understanding of the scripture.

This week we will continue our discussions on John 10. Please read from The Good Shepherd to the end of Part 7 in our guides (Pp 61-64). Our Basic Bible References for the week are:

John 10:11-42 (part of the Good Shepherd and Jesus Is Rejected by the Jews)
Ezekiel 34:1-24 (first part of God, the True Shepherd)

Jesus says at 10:16, “I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.” This is reminiscent of John 17:22 where Jesus prays, “The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one.” This has always been at the heart of the United Church of Christ. Our Question(s) of the Week are: “What does this teach us about God’s love for all people?  How does Jesus’ statement about “one flock and one shepherd” encourage unity?  In what ways can we live out the unity that Jesus desires?”

I look forward to us all getting together. Please feel free to share your thoughts and insights on Jesus as the Good Shepherd which has definite roots in both Ezekiel and Psalm 23.
