Soup for the Soul – March 13, 2025

Good morning everyone,

Hope everyone is well. Thank you for a lively and interesting discussion on Thursday night. We will continue on through the story of Lazarus, Mary, and Martha this week.

Please read from Jesus and Lazarus through The Anointing (Pp 69-71) in our guides. Our Basic Bible Reference is:

John 11:38-12:11 (Jesus Raises Lazarus to Life; The Plot to Kill Jesus; Mary Anoints Jesus; and The Plot to Kill Lazarus)

Last week we talked about the contrasts between Mary and Martha. This week we have the contrast between Mary and Judas while Mary is anointing Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume. Jesus says, “You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.” Our Question(s) of the Week is: What do you think Jesus means by this? How does this passage challenge the way we think about generosity and service?”

I am looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it tomorrow night at Frieden’s for our first Ash Wednesday Service at 7:00. And, of course, on Thursday. We have such a great group. We always need to be grateful for that. We may always have the poor but we will not always have this group.
