Good afternoon all,
I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather – even if for many of us that means a lot of work. I am looking forward to meeting with you. I miss everyone in our group and spending time together as we read the Word. One topic we will be discussing is our schedule ahead. I know that spring is springing and there are other events in our lives. We are in the season of sowing and many of us have other commitments.
We will likely be finishing Part 10, Father, Son, Spirit, and Church, in our guides and are right in the middle of Jesus’ Farewell Discourse. Please read from The Vine and the Branches through the end of Part 10 (Pp 89-92). Our Basic Bible Reference for the week is:
John 15:1-27 (Jesus the True Vine and The World’s Hatred) We will be getting into the last two of the “I AM” statements this week. “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower.” And, “I am the vine, you are the branches.” Such wonderful beauty and fruit for thought as we enter the time of year when things begin to grow. Jesus continues on to say, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Our Question(s) of the Week are: “How does this connect with Jesus’ mission? Why do you think Jesus used the term “friends” rather than disciples or followers? Who might you lay down your life for?” How does understanding Jesus’ love for us change the way you view your own ability to love others?
And a Bonus Question This Week: Martin Luther King, Jr., said:
“And I say to you this morning, that if you have never found something so dear and so precious to you that you will die for it, then you aren’t fit to live.” Full quote here. “For what (or for who) would you lay down your life?
Enjoy the days ahead.
