Good morning all,
I am so happy that the Harvest season has been a success and we will welcome back those involved in the harvest back to the group. Since we will be made a little more whole, my intent is to pick up where we left off in John. Our last session in the spring was John 15.
Please read part 11, Jesus Prepares the Disciples (pp 94-98) up until Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer in the guide (attached). Our Basic Bible Reference will be:
John 15:26-16:26 (The end of The World’s Hatred; The Work of the Spirit; and Sorrow Will Turn to Joy)
We are picking up in the middle of what is called, “Jesus Farewell Discourse,” (Ch. 14-17). It is what Jesus says to the disciples to prepare them for his arrest, death, and resurrection. It is beautiful and inspiring but also can be difficult to read.
At 16:21-22 Jesus says, “When a woman is in labor, she has pain, because her hour has come. But when her child is born, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy of having brought a human being into the world. So you have pain now; but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.” Our Question of the Week is: “When have you experienced a season of pain or uncertainty that later gave way to joy or deeper faith — and how might that memory help you trust God in the “labor pains” of your life right now?”
I am looking forward to having our band back together as we discuss this and learn from it and each other.
