Good morning all,
I hope everyone was able to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. It is a great reminder to put gratitude at the forefront of our hearts and minds. And maybe even more importantly, to try to always have hearts of gratitude to our Creator and all that we have.
We will finish up Chapter 11, Jesus Prepares His Disciples, in our guides. Please read from Jesus Prays for Us through the end of the chapter (Pp 100-102).
John 17:20-26 (end of Jesus Prays for His Disciples)
The guide says, “Jesus prayer for us, too, is that we may all be one.” This text has been used many times as the watchword for ecumenical endeavors. The church of Jesus Christ is only as strong as the love that forms the worldwide fellowship of Christians. As the Methodist founder John Wesley observed, “We may not all think alike, but may we all love alike?”
Our Questions of the Week are: In what ways might Jesus’ prayer challenge how we think about denominations, disagreements, or diversity? How can this prayer shape our approach to conflict both within the church and in everyday relationships? If Jesus’ final prayer before his arrest centered on unity and love, what does that reveal about God’s deepest desire for the Church?”
We will be taking a break from our comprehensive study of John and will return back to it in time for Lent which will match up well as we read of Jesus’ arrest, crucifixion, and resurrection.
Stay warm and be well. See you on Thursday.
