Due to the forecasted Blizzard Warning for Sunday, December 28th, in-person worship will be cancelled.
Dear Members and Friends of St. John’s,
Grace and peace to you in this season of Christmas. Due to the impending winter weather situation that requires us to cancel in-person worship for Sunday, December 28, I want to share a brief pastoral word with you especially since this day was meant to mark the celebration of St. John’s birthday.
While we will not gather in the sanctuary this Sunday, the good news of Christmas still holds us. John’s Gospel reminds us: “The Word became flesh and lived among us.” That promise does not depend on a building being open or a service being held. It rests on something far deeper: God’s decision to dwell with us now and always.
For generations, faithful people have gathered at St. John’s to sing, pray, serve, and care for one another. They worshiped in times of joy and in times of hardship. They adapted, rebuilt, and trusted that God was still at work—even when plans changed.
That story continues with us. Christmas is not confined to December 25. It lives on in quiet acts of love, in connections made and maintained, in care offered to neighbors, and in faith practiced day by day.
So this week, I invite you to honor St. John’s birthday in simple ways: Say a prayer of thanks for those who came before us. Reach out to someone who might need encouragement. Light a candle at home and remember that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness does not overcome it.
We will gather again soon, and when we do, we will continue the work God has entrusted to this congregation: to love God, connect with others, serve faithfully, and live abundantly.
Until then, know this: You are held in prayer. You belong. And Christ still makes a home among us. With gratitude for each and every one of you,
Pastor Scott
